About Pedal & Scoot

The long-tern benefits of riding a bicycle

Welcome to Pedal & Scoot

Pedal & Scoot is first and foremost about people, and the life-changing experiences and opportunities that riding a bike can offer.

We work with schools, community groups and individuals in the Lancaster area, and further afield on request. We provide the support, training and skills that children and adults need in order to become confident cyclists.  We also provide staff training to enable you to create a cycling culture within your setting.

Each piece of work is tailored to your needs. Some schools choose short courses, others opt to have a longer-term involvement with Pedal & Scoot.

Please note that Pedal & Scoot provides a different and complimentary service to the Bikeability training for year 5 & 6 pupils. We offer early years training and much more… Do take a look at our case studies to get a flavour of our work.

Pedal and Scoot for schools

Want to provide challenge for your EYFS / KS1 classes?

Children love cycling! The pure bliss of their first solo ride is a moment to remember for the rest of their lives.  Pedal & Scoot helps children learn how to ride a bike in the safe environment of the playground. Cycling develops children’s’ motor skills, balance, confidence and independence. The Pedal & Scoot learn to ride programme is ideal way of providing challenge and supporting physical development in your outdoor continuous provision.

“Because of Annie’s successful coaching, the children were then allowed to bring their bikes into the outdoor classroom, where we sectioned off an area for them to use in free flow learning time. It was then very easy to then provide differentiated challenges.”
Reception teacher, Carnforth.

The big wide world

"The great majority of us first learn to ride as a child, the bicycle a type of 'transitional object', taking us away to really explore the bigger world for the first time out of the sight of our parents, our first real taste of independence and freedom. It's the symbolic moment when horizons broaden, possibilities open up; you are moving under your own power, controlling where you want to go."

– Mike Carter 'One Man and His Bike'
