Pedal & Picnic!

Come along to a Pedal&Scoot bike ride this summer!  This is a personalised service for up to 2 children. You can leave your children to cycle with Annie from Pedal&Scoot, while you enjoy a bit of quality ‘me’ time;  or you can come along for the ride too if you fancy it!

Pedal Picnic 2015

How it works – before the ride:

We’ll have an initial consultation to enable me to work out the best cycling route for your child.  You might like to meet me at this stage, possibly with your child, so that they can get to know me a bit before we go cycling together.  Or we can chat on the phone or over email; it’s up to you!  The route depends very much on their cycling ability, and I will make sure I choose the most appropriate route for them. Most rides follow quiet and traffic-free routes.  However, if your child is older and a more experienced & confident cyclist, I can plan a route to help them improve their skills when cycling on roads.

On the day:

We’ll cycle from a point convenient to you; I work in the Lancaster & Morecambe Bay area. If in doubt about whether I would work from your location, do just get in touch.

I cycle behind your children to ensure I can see them at all times, observe their skill level, and give them any instructions as needed.  We will stop regularly and cover safety tips; I will help your child to improve their cycling skills.

Most of all, I will always strive to ensure the ride is a safe, fun and enjoyable experience, and I will ensure your children are happy and looked after.

Please contact me to find out more and to have a chat about whether this is suitable for your child.

Costs are £25 per half day per child, with a £5 family discount for additional siblings.

What you get for this price: picnic, snacks and drinks; a personalised service from an experienced & professional teacher and cyclist; consultation, route planning and risk assessment before the day.

Any accompanying adults are free of charge, and group sizes can be larger in this case; group discounts available.

Summer holiday dates available for cycle picnics:

August 17th, 21st, 24th, 25th, 27th, 28th

September 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th

Weekend dates are also available – please do ask.

Alternatively, you might choose for your child to have a one-hour training session; suitable for learners too. These 1:1 sessions are £15 per child and can take place in a traffic-free area, or on the roads. I can fit this in at a time to suit you – school holidays; after school or at weekends.

Safety first: I am a qualified teacher and cycle instructor, and safety is at the forefront of my service.  I risk assess the routes beforehand, and have public liability insurance through the CTC.  I have an enhanced DBS check, and am trained in child protection.  I am a Sustrans Ride Leader, a first aider and am water-safety trained; I carry a first aid kit plus a throw line when cycling near water.

The big wide world

"The great majority of us first learn to ride as a child, the bicycle a type of 'transitional object', taking us away to really explore the bigger world for the first time out of the sight of our parents, our first real taste of independence and freedom. It's the symbolic moment when horizons broaden, possibilities open up; you are moving under your own power, controlling where you want to go."
